I've decided to do my argumentative paper on the topic of "Should teachers be able to carry a gun at school". Most people probably think I'm crazy after reading that but I promise you that I'm normal. This topics interests me a lot because I am a supporter of gun rights. My dad has always been an avid hunter and has always had a passion for guns, he has his CCW License (which allows him to carry a gun on most property) and now even teaches the class to many people who are interested in getting their own CCW license. He has done a great job keeping me informed about our 2nd Amendment.
I chose this topic because I know quite a bit about the topic but I would like to do more research on it. In my high school debate class, I took part in a debate with a very similar topic and it was very interesting learning about it. As a supporter of this I believe there are a few things flawed with our current system that no one seems to really notice. Some of these problems for me would be that police simply cannot respond quick enough to eliminate a threat inside of a school. If teachers had guns, the reactions to stopping school shootings or anything along those lines would be much faster and efficient. If teachers were put through the correct state certified tests I believe they should be able to protect students and workforce of the schools.
This is a very cool and interesting topic you picked. I agree that there is problems with how the police respond to a threat in a school.
ReplyDeleteI like that you included teachers should be allowed to have guns if they go through specific training. You could also write about other places that are growing more dangerous that should be allowed to have guns.
ReplyDeleteI love this topic, I learned a lot about the second amendment in high school during my law class and I agree that teachers should be allowed to have a gun in their class room. You can argue how teachers can eliminate the threat if smething were to happen in the school but you also could argue that people against it would say that a student could find it and use it for bad not good. But either way this is a very good topic
ReplyDeleteFirst off, you are far from normal, Sawyer.
ReplyDeleteBut, I never thought about teachers having guns in school. Just saying it sounds dangerous, but you make a great point about the police not responding in time. But if teachers are allowed to carry a gun at school, should the students (as long as they have their CCW license)?
I agree with the argument that you make and a lot of your points too. When you're writing the essay, I would suggest you talk about how a gun would be secured in their classroom and what kind of qualifications a teacher would need to carry a gun within the school. I think those are some of the most important aspects of the argument.
